The car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz plans to invest more than two billion euros in training employees for digital jobs by 2030. “In the massive transformation of our working world, lifelong learning is and will remain the key to success – for us as a company as well as for our employees,” explained Head of Human Resources Sabine Kohleisen on Tuesday.
Of the total, 1.3 billion euros went to Germany. More than 600 employees from production, production-related areas and administration have started further training to become specialists in data processing and artificial intelligence. The group from Stuttgart employs a total of 170,000 people.
Since the demand from the workforce is high, the company is expanding the training programs. If the funds now planned are not sufficient, the works council will insist on an increase, said works council chief Ergun Lümali. “But I don’t have the impression that the company is blocking this.”

Around 120,000 participants took advantage of the various training courses on digital skills that the company needs for its strategic goals in terms of connected vehicles last year, as Mercedes further explained. More than 77,000 learners learned electromobility skills.
