Shortly before the 400 most important Mercedes-Benz executives were able to go on summer vacation, CEO Ola Källenius launched an unmistakable appeal. The Stuttgart car manufacturer must become much more efficient despite considerable savings, said Källenius at a top management meeting at the end of June.
His goal: Mercedes should be at least as slim as BMW, four participants of the event confirmed to the Handelsblatt. The distance to the direct rival is still large. According to Handelsblatt calculations, Mercedes spent around 1300 euros more on sales per new car than BMW in the past year alone – with sales of around 2.4 million vehicles each.
