Tennis legend Roger Federer and German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz have extended their partnership. The 20-time Grand Slam winner has had a close partnership with Mercedes-Benz for 15 years and this is being extended for the coming years.
Since the end of his career, Roger Federer and Mercedes-Benz have taken their long-standing partnership to the next level. Their joint Neon Legacy initiative is intended to give back to society and support especially the next generations of tennis players. In June 2023, a public tennis court in Abbey Wood, London, was renovated and opened to the public by Roger Federer. On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, right before the Laver Cup, Roger Federer stepped back on the court once again to interact with local kids from the Vancouver area.
“It has always been my goal to give something back to tennis and society after my active career. With this extension of our long-term partnership, Mercedes-Benz and I look forward to identifying and implementing these special projects for the benefit of communities around the world,” said Federer.
“Just ahead of the Laver Cup, we are delighted to announce the extension of our partnership with Roger. We are also excited to continue our initiative ‘Neon Legacy’, which got off to a great start with the beautiful tennis courts in London. Roger’s passion for giving back and his worldwide admiration will guide us towards many more impactful projects in the next years,” commented Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales.
Vancouver is the host city of this year’s Laver Cup, the tournament where the elite of global tennis is meeting once a year to honour tennis in general and Australian tennis player Rod Laver in particular. Since the first edition in 2017, the sports stars from Europe have been competing against the top players from Team World in a unique team competition. Since the first edition, Mercedes-Benz has provided the fleet of vehicles for the players, officials and selected guests. A special highlight: the team cars, two Mercedes-EQE 500 4MATIC SUV designed in the teams’ colours blue and red.
