A whopping increase in assets of 7.2 billion euros in just twelve months has brought the siblings Susanne Klatten (61) and Stefan Quandt (57) back to the top list of the 500 richest Germans by manager magazine. They owe this primarily to the healthy development of one share: that of the car manufacturer BMW, in which they jointly own almost half of the shares.
Even if the Quandts’ wealth accumulation was particularly spectacular, the family is in many ways typical of the richest in the country. Their money comes from industry. They have managed to weather economic and family crises again and again. And, this is also characteristic of many family dynasties Germany, their ancestors once placed themselves far too close to the National Socialist regime in order to secure their business.
Why is this family so secretive? How do the Quandt siblings manage to continually increase their wealth? How do you feel about your family’s past? Why is Susanne Klatten one of the largest supporters of start-ups in the country? Simone Salden, deputy editor-in-chief of manager magazine, talks about this with editor Christoph Neßhöver in the first episode of the podcast special on the new manager magazine list of the 500 richest Germans.
In five special episodes of our podcast “The Topic,” manager magazine takes you on a journey following in the footsteps of the super-rich. Editor-in-chief Simone Salden and mm reporter Christoph Neßhöver explain where the assets come from – and where they are going.
