New Delhi: Tummoc, a patented public transit app, recently conducted a survey across 21+ Indian cities with over 50,000 daily commuters to gain insights into the challenges faced by commuters in the realm of public transportation.
The results reveal 85% users recognize the lack of sufficient public transport infrastructure as a substantial issue as it hinders accessibility, increases traffic congestion, and exacerbates environmental issues in many urban areas.
Eco-friendly transportation is vital for combating climate change, curbing air pollution, conserving resources, and fostering sustainable urban development. Tummoc survey indicates that 78% of users acknowledge the importance of these options in addressing air pollution and carbon emissions.
Additionally, digital integration in public transport is crucial for seamless connectivity, with 58% expressing concern about its absence affecting efficiency. Furthermore, 61% recognize the value of data collection and analysis in enhancing public transport services and travel choices.
The survey also highlights how commuters stress out about the inconvenience they face while availing public transport along with concerns over cashless payments, some of which are emphasised below:
● Overcrowding: 37% face discomfort due to overcrowding
● Unreliable Timings: 28% cite unreliable timings, including delays and irregular schedules
● Poor Maintenance: 24% point out poor maintenance as one of the major issues
● Limited Accessibility: 15% emphasises the need for more inclusive transport options
● Lack of Information: 22% highlights insufficient information about routes, schedules, and fares
● Ticketing Problems: 13% identify ticketing problems, such as long queues and difficulties in purchasing tickets
● Digital Information Accessibility: About 44% raise concerns about the accessibility of digital information
● Digital Inclusion: 38% raise concerns about digital inclusion, highlighting potential accessibility gaps
● Reliability of Digital Platforms: 32% feel worried about the reliability of digital platforms for real-time information
● Cashless Payment Accessibility: 49% expresses concerns about the accessibility of cashless payment options
● Digital Security: Approximately 28% show concern about digital security when using cashless payment methods
● Technical Issues: 22% experience technical issues with cashless payments
