Car sales in the European Union did not recover as strongly from the bottlenecks in the industry in September as in previous months. A total of 861,062 cars were newly registered last month, 9.2 percent more than a year earlier, according to the European industry association Acea announced on Friday in Brussels
.
However, sales in September 2022 had only increased for the second time after more than a year of declines, so the basis for comparison was higher this time. According to Acea, there was an increase of 16.9 percent to a good 7.9 million cars for the first nine months of 2023.
In Germany On the other hand, the market was relatively stable, with a small decrease of 0.1 percent compared to September 2022. In France, however, they increased by 10.7 percent and Italy even increased by 22.7 percent.
In September, more battery-electric cars were registered than diesel vehicles in the European Union for the third time ever. The share of electric vehicles was 14.8 percent. In Germany, however, their sales fell by 28.6 percent year-on-year. State funding for electric cars was recently cut here. A significant increase in sales in the Netherlands, Sweden and France But more than made up for the decline in Germany, so that electric car sales across the EU grew by 14.3 percent to 127,149 units.
