More than 130 automobile stalls will be set up in the month-long Vikram Trade fair in Ujjain while the announcement by the state government to offer 50% discount in tax on vehicles has further raised hopes of encouraging business in the automobile sector.
Automobile dealers of Indore and the state participating in the trade fair have placed orders for higher than usual stocks from original equipment manufacturers.
The district administration in Ujjain is anticipating sales of around 2,500 four wheelers and 1,500 two wheelers in the month long trade fair starting March 1 and extending until April 9.
Ujjain Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh said, “Response from automobile industry is encouraging for the trade fair. The provision of 50% exemption in tax rates is likely to give a boost to the sales of automobiles. Following discussions with the auto industry, we are expecting sales of cars to touch around 2,500 and two wheelers 15,000 units.”
On Monday, the state government announced a 50 percent discount in the lifetime motor vehicle tax rate on the sale of non-transport vehicles and light transport vehicles in the Ujjain Vikram Trade Fair. In a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Bhopal, it was decided that exemption will be given on getting permanent registration of the sold vehicles from Regional Transport Office, Ujjain.
Apart from auto stalls, electronics, food and local art and craft stalls will also be put up in the trade fair.
Ujjain municipal commissioner Ashish Pathak said, “Around 174 shops will be set up in Dussehra ground. Of these, 131 are automobiles, 12 food, 21 electronic and 10 stalls will be of different banks. Similarly, there will be 190 shops in the PGBT College campus. There will be 156 shops selling various handicrafts, 20 swings and 14 food shops and other activities will also be conducted.”
Automobile dealer Aditya Kasliwal said, “We are putting up stalls in the fair and have started placing orders with OEM’s for more stocks to put on display. Though time is short, we are expecting to arrange as many stocks we can. Discounts offered on the tax are expected to give a boost to the sales of vehicles.”
