Govt has signed an MoU with NTPC to set up India’s largest green hydrogen production plant near Pudimadaka of Visakhapatnam district.
NTPC is setting up the project with an outlay of INR 65,370 crore. In the presence of chief secretary Dr.K S Jawahar Reddy, the MoU was signed by APIIC managing director Praveen Kumar and NTPC CGM VV Sivasankar. Special CS (energy) Vijayananad, secretary, industries, Yuvaraj, NTPC executive director R Sarangapani, and deputy GM, Rohit Saleel Mukharjee were also present.
NTPC had signed an MoU with govt to set up the plant at Global Investors Summit (GIS) held in last March. After getting Detailed Project Report (DPR) ready, NTPC wanted some amendments to the land lease policy, which the govt had cleared. The project feasibility report was prepared by NGEL for the Green Hydrogen Hub (Integrated Green Hydrogen Industrial Park), at Pudimadaka. This will be home to one of India’s largest green hydrogen production facilities with a capacity of 1,100 TPD.
The facility operated in collaboration with other global companies, will produce green hydrogen/derivatives, including 6,000 TPD of green ammonia and 300 TPD of green methanol, primarily for South Asian export market.
The project feasibility report projects a total investment of 65,370 crore in three phases by 2032. While phase I will be ready by 2026 with 681 crore, phase II will be completed with an outlay of 31,200 crore. The final phase will be completed by 2032 with infusion of another 33,489 crore.
