One from the Chinese car manufacturer BYD chartered car transport ship docked in a German port for the first time on its maiden voyage. The ship arrived in Bremerhaven on Sunday and the first vehicles have been brought ashore since Monday, said a spokeswoman for the logistics service provider BLG. Around 3,000 vehicles are to be brought ashore in Bremerhaven, the majority of which are electric vehicles. According to the information, the “Explorer No. 1” is the first of eight future ships that BYD will use to transport cars China want to use in Europe.
The 200 meter long ship had previously docked in Vlissingen in the Netherlands. According to the spokeswoman, it will remain in Bremerhaven until Thursday. From there we go to Zeebrugge Belgium and then back to China. The BLG spokeswoman said it was still unclear whether BYD would regularly call at Bremerhaven in the future. “But we assume so,” she said.
The RoRo carrier “BYD Explorer No. 1” set off on its maiden voyage from Shenzhen in mid-January. With more than 1.7 million vehicles handled per year, the BLG car terminal in Bremerhaven is one of the largest car terminals in the world.
