Tesla-Boss Elon Musk (52) is increasing the salaries of its AI engineers in order to compete with its competitor for sought-after AI talent OpenAI to be able to keep up. The 52-year-old wrote on the x platform (formerly Twitter): “Tesla is increasing the compensation (depending on the progress) of our AI engineering team.”
It was preceded by a report
from the US business medium “The Information” about Telsa engineer Ethan Knight’s move to Musk’s AI startup xAI. According to “The Information”, he is the third Tesla engineer to leave the company for xAI.
“Ethan wanted to switch to OpenAI […] . “They have aggressively tried to recruit Tesla engineers with huge severance offers and unfortunately in some cases they have been successful,” Musk wrote on X. The decision to raise salaries is now also a response to the competition for AI talent . “The war for AI talent is the craziest I’ve ever seen,” Musk wrote on Twitter.
Musk launched his company to develop artificial intelligence in July last year – and is thus competing for AI talent with other AI companies such as DeepMind with Demis Hassabis (47), Meta with Mark Zuckerberg (39) or OpenAI with CEO Sam Altman (38).
Musk once co-founded OpenAI, but left the company after a few years. The billionaire has been criticizing OpenAI and Altman for a long time and recently sued the AI start-up, whereupon OpenAI boss Sam Altman took part own allegations against Musk hit back – and published old emails from the tech billionaire.
