Tesla’s Elon Musk is slated to visit India this month to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Reuters reported. He is also expected to announce investment plans including opening a new factory in the country, two persons in the know informed the newswire.
Musk is scheduled to meet the Indian Prime Minister in the week of April 22, and will separately announce India’s plans, the two sources informed Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Musk will be joined by other executives as well on his India visit, the first person in the know said.
Reuters could not elicit a response from the Prime Minister’s office and Tesla. The newswire noted that the contours of Musk’s India trip are subject to change.
Elon Musk and Narendra Modi met in New York in June and Tesla had been persistent in its demands for lowering of taxes on electric vehicles in India while it mulled establishing a factory in India.
India last month unveiled a new EV policy, reducing import taxes to 15% from 10% on certain models, if a manufacturer invests a minimum of USD 500 million and establishes a factory too.
