Tencent unveils smart mobility system for automakers

Chinese internet company Tencent Holdings launched its large model for vehicles on Wednesday. The company said it has offered its autonomous driving cloud solutions to companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Bosch, Nvidia and Nio.

Tencent, which reiterated that the company will not make cars itself, said it aims to be an intelligent enabler of automakers and industry chain companies by leveraging its cloud and mapping capabilities.

According to Dowson Tong, Tencent’s senior executive vice-president and CEO of Tencent’s cloud and smart industries group, said the tech giant has provided cloud services to more than 100 car companies and tech firms, of which more than 30 have used its overseas cloud services.

By the end of this year, Tencent’s smart car products are expected to be installed in more than 15 million vehicles, he said. 

Zhong Xuedan, vice-president of Tencent’s intelligent mobility, said the company is also working with Changan, GAC, FAW Toyota and other car manufacturers to jointly create large model solutions for the automotive industry, with functions spanning seat assistant, marketing and customer service and other scenarios. 

Such an automotive industry large model has achieved industry-leading performance in Chinese reading and understanding, end-to-end question and answer, as well as automotive industry-related tasks, he said.
