Detroit earned its Motor City name by being the heart of the U.S. automotive revolution and some new vehicle manufacturers still consider the Michigan city to be where they need to be in order to succeed.

The newest outfit to announce moving operations to Detroit is Bollinger Motors. The company is working on developing a fully-electric utility vehicle with 200 miles of range, 360 horsepower, and truck capabilities.

Robert Bollinger, founder of the company, made the announcement during the 2018 North American International Auto Show. The Bollinger B1, their first vehicle, is on display at the show.

Bollinger’s goal with the B1 is to have a production electric truck that meets the unique needs of truck buyers. A dual motor setup allows for all-wheel drive, and long-range suspension helps with off-road requirements. A pass-through in the front trunk allows for transport 24 2x4s with lengths up to 15’4″ between the axles.

The Detroit area is home to three of the five mainstream light-duty truck manufacturers in the country. General Motors, owners of Chevrolet and GMC, sit on the banks of the Detroit River downtown. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, it builds the Ram Trucks line, is based in Auburn Hills. Ford is headquartered in Dearborn. Relocating to Detroit puts Bollinger Motors right in the middle of the action.

An on-sale date hasn’t yet been set for truck, but the company is currently taking no-commitment reservations on its website.
