CDK Global was hit by a cyber attack in the US on Wednesday forcing it to shut down its applications for US dealers.
The US software giant services 15,000 outlets across the US, with thousands of dealers and the majority of OEMs on its boos.
The company “shut all systems down and executed extensive testing and consulted with external third-party experts,” according to Tony Macrito, a CDK spokesman, in an email to Bloomberg.
Reuters reported yesterday that the company said its core dealer management system and digital retailing solutions had been restored.
It said it also had tested and consulted with external third-party experts after the incident.
CDK spokesperson Lisa Finney told USA Today in an emailed statement the company had shut down most of its systems “out of an abundance of caution” for customers.
By Wednesday afternoon, the company had restored its core document management system and digital retailing solutions, she said.
Cyber crime has been on the rise over the past decade. In the UK Arnold Clark and Pendragon are among those who have been hit.
