German Manager Magazine: Google subsidiary: How robotaxi provider Waymo is establishing autonomous driving in city centers003418

Anyone who gets into a Waymo driverless robotaxi in San Francisco is first greeted by name by their car (“Hello Jonas”) and immediately warned: Please fasten your seat belt, touching the steering wheel is forbidden, pedals are taboo.

It operates 250 robotaxis Google-Subsidiary Waymo in San Francisco, which moves confidently through the busy city center traffic – and thus proves that autonomous driving also works in the city. Technically, Waymo has long since outpaced the German car companies, and Tesla can’t keep up either. The only thing the business hasn’t done yet is a business model: Google’s “Other bets” division has recorded a loss of $4 billion – a large part of which is likely attributable to Waymo.

When this will change, what chances autonomous driving has in Europe and what it feels like to have to trust a driverless car, Jonas Rest, editor of manager magazin, will provide information about this in this podcast in conversation with editor-in-chief Isabell Hülsen.

In the podcast “Das Thema”, editor-in-chief Isabell Hülsen provides information every week about the editorial team’s exclusive findings on a topic that is crucial for the German economy. You can listen to the podcast via manager magazin as well as on Spotify
