Volkswagen has from Federal Cartel Office received the green light for the planned entry into the US electric car manufacturer Rivian. The authorities in Berlin announced that the joint venture planned by the two and VW’s minority stake in Rivian had been cleared under merger control law.
VW has been struggling with problems with in-house software development for electric cars for years, which has already delayed model launches – most recently that of the new ID.4
. The partnership is intended to accelerate the group’s software development. Europe’s largest car manufacturer wants to spend up to five billion US dollars on the project.
In addition to the cooperation with Rivian, Volkswagen also wants to develop and present two vehicles in China together with the small Chinese car manufacturer XPeng by 2026/27.
