Maruti has finally announced prices for the Swift CNG, four months after launching the petrol hatchback. Swift CNG prices start from Rs 8.20 lakh (ex-showroom), and is available in three trims – VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi variants. The Swift CNG is Maruti Suzuki’s fourteenth CNG powered vehicle for the Indian market.
Maruti Swift CNG gets the new Z-series engine
The Swift CNG is powered by the new Z12E petrol engine with a factory fitted CNG kit. Maruti says the Swift CNG delivers a healthy 32.85kg/km (ARAI rated) which is six percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing Swift CNG which was powered by the 1.2-liter K-series engine. The new Swift CNG will be available with a five-speed manual gearbox only.
The CNG tank setup on the Swift CNG remains the same as the earlier model and it does not get the twin cylinder layout as seen on some Tata models. As far as emissions go, Maruti says the new Swift CNG’s Co2 levels are also down by six percent when compared to the earlier car.
Maruti Swift CNG features
The entry-level Swift CNG VXi gets features like six airbags, ESC, remote central locking, halogen projector headlamps, 14-inch steel wheels and power windows among other features. The mid-level Swift VXi (O) gets a height adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and steering mounted controls among other features.
The Swift ZXi gets a CNG powered variant for the first time, and comes packed with features like a rear washer wiper, LED projector headlamps with daytime running lamps 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless charging and automatic climate control among others. Maruti says this variant has been introduced on the Swift CNG due to high customer demand looking for a well-equipped hatchback with a factory fitted CNG kit.
Maruti has been the biggest carmaker with CNG powered models in India and is targeting yearly sales for six lakh CNG powered passenger cars and SUVs. Last year, the homegrown Indian brand sold around 4.77 lakh CNG cars in India. For the April to August 2024 period, Maruti has sold 2.21 lakh CNG cars, SUVs in our market.
Coming back to the Swift CNG, the earlier-gen car saw 15 percent sales of CNG powered models. Maruti is anticipating an increased demand for the new Swift CNG, thanks to higher fuel economy and a wider price band. Deliveries for the new Swift CNG will commence by this weekend in Gujarat first, followed by other states. Maruti says Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are its top 5 markets for CNG model sales. This is followed by the states of Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
