The BMW CE 02 launched in India at Rs 4.50 lakh, is one of the most expensive electric two-wheelers currently on sale, second only to its older sibling the CE 04, which was launched earlier this year. It is manufactured at TVS’s Hosur plant
BMW CE 02 launch details
Powered by two 1.96kWh batteries that form a combined capacity of 3.92kWh, the CE 02 has a peak output of 11kW (15hp) and 55Nm of torque. Positioned as a 200cc alternative, the CE 02 weighs 142kg and produces a peak output similar to some sporty 160cc motorcycles. With a 745mm seat height, the CE 02 is quite approachable for shorter riders and designed for city commutes.
BMW claims the CE 02 has a range of 108km and has a top-speed of 95kph. Currently on sale with the highline pack, the CE 02 gets added features such as gold anodized USD fork, teal stickering, tri-coloured seat, heated grips, and a smartphone holder. Paired with BMW’s app, riders can use their smartphone as an extension to the 3.5-inch TFT and control inputs using the CE 02’s switchgear.
BMW has equipped the CE 02 with two riding modes as standard and as part of the Highline package gets an additional mode. These modes are called Flow, Surf and Flash. These modes don’t make drastic changes to the riding experience and only tweak the throttle input and regenerative braking levels. Currently the CE 02 is available in only one colour and BMW has provided different luggage options and visors as optional accessories. The CE 02 has no direct rivals at present and its price pits it against the likes of the Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 which costs less and packs a lot more performance.
