Flixtrain is continuing to expand its regional transport offering. The long-distance train company is expanding its cooperation with regional train operators in the so-called Germany tariff association, as Flixtrain announced. “From now on, around 200 additional cities can be reached with the combination tickets, which consist of a Flixtrain and a regional train journey,” the company announced.
Passengers can then use one ticket from long-distance train stations to switch to the regional transport of the respective cooperation partner to get to their destination. Most of these regional connections are operated by Deutsche Bahn. The green Flixtrain trains continue to run exclusively on long-distance routes, for example between Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
Kiel, Lübeck or Ulm are now also accessible
With the new partnerships, passengers can now travel from Hamburg to Kiel, Lübeck or Flensburg. In the south there are cities such as Ulm, Tübingen and Kaiserslautern.
The Flixtrain brand is part of the Flix mobility platform, which is best known for the green Flixbuses. Flix is in the long-distance bus business Germany and many other countries by far the market leader. The company is one of the few competitors of Deutsche Bahn in long-distance rail transport, although with a very small market share in the lower single-digit percentage range.
Nevertheless, Flix wants to grow primarily by rail. “The cooperation with DTV is an important step in connecting more and more cities across Germany with our offering – even outside the metropolitan regions,” it said. Flix does not operate the vehicles itself. Buses and trains belong to transport companies that carry out the journeys on behalf of the Munich group.
