The American election campaign, like no other, is massively influenced by party donations. The tech billionaire and Tela boss Elon Musk has donated around $75 million in just three months to a political organization supporting the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump supports.
This emerges from recently published documents from the US Election Commission. According to the documents, the majority of the money, around $72 million, flowed to the “America PAC” between July and September.
Musk was the only donor to the group during this period. The organization focuses on voter mobilization in battleground states. This means that “America PAC” has spent more money than any other pro-Trump group with the same focus. Musk had also advertised a kind of election bonus on his X account. Anyone who recommends potential Trump voters to the organization “America PAC” should receive $47.
Other major donors to the Republican Party include bank heir Timothy Mellon. As the “New York Times”
reports, Melon is said to have donated around $227 million to federal candidates since 2020. A large part of it went to the Republicans, 75 million to Trump. The American-Israeli casino heiress Miriam Adelson is also a major donor: she invested around $95 million.
Musk, who said he had voted for Democratic presidential candidates in the past, took a clear step to the right. He publicly supported Trump in July and appeared with him at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.
