The IG Metall sees the heavy workload of employees as a cause of the high level of sickness in the country Tesla-Car factory in Grünheide near Berlin. A survey of more than 1,200 employees by union members in October showed that more than 80 percent felt overworked, the union said. In addition, 9 out of 10 respondents complained of physical complaints such as headaches, neck pain, joint pain or back pain. According to the company, around 12,000 people work in the factory.
“These results are shocking and make me angry,” said the head of the IG Metall Berlin-Brandenburg-Saxony district, Dirk Schulze. “The survey shows how critical the workload is at Tesla. Plant management cannot ignore these numbers.”
Tesla did not respond to a request from manager magazin asking for comment.
Additional break required
According to the union, the survey shows possible solutions. This includes an additional paid break, as is common in many other car factories. Four out of five respondents also wanted shifts to roll backwards.
