BharatBenz, the flagship brand of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, Germany, has been awarded the prestigious status of “Well-Known Trademark” by the Intellectual Property Office, India.
This designation, under Indian trademark law, is reserved for brands with strong recognition and reputation within the market, providing BharatBenz with enhanced legal protections under the Trademark Act.
According to Daimler, this achievement highlights BharatBenz’s significant value and solidifies its position as a prominent and trusted brand in the Indian commercial vehicle sector. Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO of DICV said the company is immensely proud to achieve this prestigious recognition as a ‘Well-Known Trademark.’ As a young and dynamic brand, BharatBenz has made a significant impact in the Indian commercial vehicle market, he added. “Over the past 12 years, BharatBenz has played a vital role in nation-building, securing a strong market position through an unwavering commitment to performance, innovation and safety,” he said.
Launched in 2012, BharatBenz entered India’s predominantly cowl-based truck market with an innovative approach, introducing advanced safety features that set it apart from competitors. It was the first brand in India to offer factory-built, air-conditioned metal cabins for enhanced driver comfort and road safety, a pioneering move that underlines the brand’s dedication to safety and efficiency.
BharatBenz trucks are engineered to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), which has resonated well with the industry and positioned the brand as a cost-effective choice.
Arya noted that BharatBenz continues to meet global safety standards, including Europe’s ECE R29-03, providing enhanced protection for drivers in the event of a crash, and setting a new benchmark for safety and reliability in India. BharatBenz vehicles are known for combining Indian engineering expertise with German standards and quality, addressing the diverse needs of Indian industries.
In 2020, the brand achieved another industry-first by introducing Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) compliant trucks. The “Well-Known Trademark” designation not only strengthens BharatBenz’s legal standing but also builds on consumer trust and loyalty, marking a step forward for the brand’s visibility and reputation in both domestic and international markets, the company said.
