A few days before the full-year results are announced next week Infineon another order from the car manufacturer Stellantis receive. The chip manufacturer announced on Thursday that it would supply Stellantis with modern power semiconductors for its next generation of electric cars. For this purpose, the group has partnered with car brands such as Opel, Jeep, Fiat or Peugeot Appropriate production capacities secured at Infineon.
The semiconductor company did not provide any information about the contract volume. Infineon will present its figures for the third quarter on Tuesday, November 11th. Infineon’s shares rose by around 1.5 percent on Thursday, starting an attempt to stabilize after previously falling to their lowest level in twelve months.
The crisis in the German automotive industry also made itself felt at Infineon over the course of the year. The supplier reported disappointing results in the second quarter. Infineon boss Jochen Hanebeck (56) is cutting more than 1,000 jobs and investing a lot of money in new plants to find a way out of the semiconductor crisis.
Just a few weeks ago, Infineon achieved a breakthrough in the production of gallium nitride-based semiconductors (GaN). This technology should Infineon bring enormous cost advantages in the production of components in the coming years. Specifically, the company from Neubiberg near Munich has succeeded in producing the material on 300 millimeter disks (wafers) – according to its own information, it is the first company in the world.
Infineon is now hoping for decent growth in these components, which are important for chargers, among other things, but also play a role in AI servers, solar systems or electromobility. The market for this will reach a volume of several billion dollars by the end of the decade, said Hanebeck at a conference call.
