Audi is for his appearance in the formula 1 apparently in conversation with a powerful financier. As various media reports, Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund would like to participate in the team. According to the “Bild” newspaper, a commitment of up to one billion euros is conceivable. But Audi would hardly give up the majority, writes “Auto, Motor und Sport”.
Background: In order to compete in the premier class, Audi took over the Swiss Sauber team. The team is currently starting under the old name, but from 2026 it will bear the name of the Ingolstadt team.
Qatar is no stranger to Wolfsburg
For Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, which has broad investments worldwide, it would by no means be the first foray into the world of sports. The billion-dollar financial vehicle was an important sponsor of the 2022 World Cup in the emirate. The fund also has a stake in the professional club Paris Saint-Germain.
The Qatari sovereign wealth fund is also no stranger to Audi and its parent company. Qatar Holding LLC owns 17 percent of the Wolfsburg group, which puts it behind Porsche (53.3 percent) and Lower Saxony (20 percent) are the third largest shareholders. Qatar also has a stake in Porsche.
