Trump advisor and billionaire Elon Musk (53) has the US President’s mega project Donald Trump (78) on artificial intelligence (AI). According to Musk, the project is not sufficiently funded. The main investors “in reality don’t have the money,” he writes on his online platform X.
Trump had announced the AI infrastructure project called “Stargate,” which he said would involve investments of “at least $500 billion” (479.6 billion euros) in the USA should entail. In addition to OpenAI and SoftBank The US software and hardware manufacturer Oracle is also involved in the project.
Musk writes that SoftBank has only secured “well under ten billion” dollars for the project. He knows this “from a good source”. SoftBank boss Masayoshi Son (67) had announced that Stargate would start with investments totaling $100 billion. Over the next four years, the amount is expected to rise to $500 billion.
OpenAI boss Sam Altman (39) described Musk’s comments about Stargate as “wrong”. The project is “great for our country,” Altman wrote on X.
“I recognize that what is great for our country is not always optimal for your companies, but I hope that in your new role you will mostly put (the country) first,” the OpenAI boss added with a view to Musk’s role in the new government.
Musk helped found OpenAI but left the company in 2018. He is now also taking legal action against her. In a lawsuit, he accused OpenAI of moving away from its original charitable goals and de facto becoming a for-profit company.
Musk’s criticism of Trump’s megaproject comes as a surprise: The boss of Tesla and SpaceX had shown himself to be an advisor and confidant of the US President. He supported him in the election campaign and cheerfully took part in the celebrations for Trump’s inauguration. Musk will work for the new government as a special advisor on reducing bureaucracy.
