German Manager Magazin: Nissan and Honda set merger talks from003939

The merger plans of the two Japanese carmakers Honda and Nissan threaten to fail. Nissan will suspend the merger talks with Honda, since no agreement on the conditions of the deal could be reached, the Japanese economic portal “Nikkei” reported on Wednesday.

Nissan in particular is under an economical pressure. It was only in November that the company announced the dismantling of around 9,000 jobs worldwide. Among other things, the global production capacities will reduce by 20 percent and reorganize management, it said. In addition, the group again lowered the forecast with around 134,000 employees.
