German Manager Magazin: Brose sees himself “under pressure” 004111

The corporate management of the Auto delivery group Brose defended her austerity course. In the industry, no orders are currently being awarded to the current wage costs in Germany Covering can handle it, said administrative council leader Michael Stoschek (77).

Brose has no competitor in its fields in its fields. “So you can imagine what pressure we are under,” he said in Coburg. However, Brose is a worldwide company and also produces in countries with significantly lower wage costs. With production in Germany, the shareholders waived profit, said Stefan Krug, CEO.

“Too inflexible”

Because of the major problems in the auto industry, a number of suppliers in Germany suffer – including Brose. The automotive industry is in its greatest crisis, said Stoschek. Germany’s economy needs investment funding. Otherwise the workplace reduction in German industry continues unabated.

Brose wrote losses in 2024, said Krug, there was an annual misalignment of 100 million euros. The turnover is 7.7 billion euros. Brose had proven to be “too big, too inflexible, too slow” that one had to become more efficient and slimmer. The consolidation concerns not only domestic, but all production facilities. According to his own statements, Brose has 32,000 employees in 24 countries worldwide. In Germany, the three Franconian locations Coburg, Bamberg/Hallstadt and Würzburg are currently being checked. The work may be closed in Würzburg. A decision is expected for the summer. “We are in the middle of the transformation,” said Krug.

Error in the past

In the past, Brose would have made high investments in the facilities, this will be a main construction site in the future: “It must be possible to invest less.” It takes more flexible and cheaper solutions in production. “The management misjudged the capacities,” added Stoschek.

“In the long term” the company is also ready to search for an investor. However, the aim is to remain a family business. The topic is currently not relevant. Brose is completely in family hands. Stoschek is the grandson of the company founder Max Brose.
