At the central location of the insolvent Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt the production is completely set. Until the end, battery cell production in Skellefteå was still able to continue with limited personnel ceiling and supported by the only existing customer Scania, said insolvency administrator Mikael Kubu. However, this is not sustainable in the long term. Therefore, production in the Northvolt Ett work is gradually being shut down. The aim is to stop them by June 30th.
Kubu wrote. However, there is no realistic view of a timely takeover of Northvolt Ett.
Scania as the only remaining customer
Shortly before, the Swedish radio had reported that the VW subsidiary Scania plans to buy no more batteries from Northvolt for economic reasons. According to unconfirmed information from the broadcaster SVT, the truck farmer wants to get his batteries from the Chinese manufacturer Catl in the future. Without Scania, Northvolt would no longer have customers.
Northvolt had filed for bankruptcy in Sweden on March 12th. Thanks to Scania, the company in Skellefteå, as described by Kubu, was continued to a very limited extent. According to SVT, around 900 employees are still working there.
Speaker: No consequences for Heide
The future of the Northvolt factory near Heide in Schleswig-Holstein, which is under construction, remains open. According to previous information, the German project company is not directly affected by bankruptcy.
Even after Kubu’s new decision, a German Northvolt spokesman for the dpa news agency said that the creation of production in Skellefteå has no consequences for the Heide location.
Other Northvolt business areas have recently been sold, including a work in Danzig Polish, which is taken over by Scania. Kubu now noted that there were also interested parties and potential buyers for other areas of the group of companies.
