As the Berlin “Tagesspiegel” and the news agency dpa unanimously report, the company has signed a corresponding contract with the Regional Water Association Strausberg-Kner (WSE).

The survival negotiated for months therefore provides for higher limit values, among other things. Tesla had reduced the water consumption of his factory, which changed the quality of wastewater: in the meantime there is no longer any industrial waters, but according to Tesla only customary sanitary wastewater. This does not touch any environmental limits, but contractually defined limit values. The agreement now provides for higher limit values when loading dirty water from the plant in Grünheide. Water consumption has been a dispute since the construction of the factory in Brandenburg. Environmentalists warn of problems for drinking water supply in the region because part of the Gigafactory is in the water protection area. The alliance “Turn off the tap” protested against the new water contract on Thursday.

Tesla returns large amounts of water

“We are pleased that by signing the change agreement, the WEG is paved for long -term secure and sustainable water use in the region,” said the car manufacturer. “The contract ensures that we can continue to continue our already successfully started production abnormal recycling.”

According to Tesla, 100 percent of the wastewater that arises in production can be reused. “This now enables us to return almost 400,000 cubic meters of our contractually agreed water contingent to the water association.”

Tesla had always pointed out that the water consumption in the factory in Grünheide in Grünheide was lower than on the average of the electric car industry and that the company significantly reduced consumption. According to his own statements, the US car maker hopes that the contract also puts a final line under the public discussion. The only European Tesla work of company boss Elon Musk (53) has been producing electric cars in Grünheide since 2022.

The electric boom in the new cars in Germany continued in May. Tesla still cannot benefit from this. Around 1,200 Tesla vehicles came to the streets in May according to numbers from the Federal Motor Transport Office, again more than a third less than in the same period.
