Due to a potentially life -threatening airbagaject, the German car manufacturer has to Volkswagen Call up up to 16,510 cars worldwide. According to one Report of the “Auto Bild”
Getting owners of the VW models concerned are currently receiving a callback letter that should warn them of the danger.
The VW letter therefore states that certain passenger airbags can “lead to a reduced protective effect”. However, it is even worse that “when the passenger air is triggered by the passenger air, the gas generator housing bursts or components (…) can be detached and lead to considerable or fatal injuries to vehicle occupants”, as the “Auto Bild” cited from the letter.
VW Polo, Passat, Taigo, Id.7, Id.7 Tourer and ID.Buzz are specifically affected. Affected owners would be contacted directly and asked to arrange a repair date with a Volkswagen dealer. The repair on the airbag then only takes one to three hours. Until then, the passenger airbag should be deactivated as described in the book and keep the passenger seat free.
A VW spokesman said that the abnormality at the gas generator of the airbag was noticed by a supplier and that the recall was purely preventive. The number of customers concerned could also be significantly smaller than 16,510, since cars in particular are affected that have only recently been produced. Some could still be in delivery, so not all call -backs may not have to go directly to the customers.
It was only in March the last big recall at VW given: At that time, Volkswagen had to recall commercial vehicles worldwide because faulty airbags from the Japanese company Takata had been installed, and this also ensured potential danger to the affected models.
