In Germany As many electric cars have been approved in the first half of the year as ever: a total of almost 250,000 factory-new electric cars were registered in the six months, as the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) announced. That was almost 36 percent more than in the same period last year. The market share of the Electric cars thus reached 17.7 percent from January to June. Hybrid vehicles were also sold a lot.

Most pure electric cars were newly approved in Bavaria from January to June. In total there were around 50,700, as the KBA continues. Accordingly, North Rhine-Westphalia followed in second place with almost 50,600 electric cars, in third place in Baden-Württemberg with almost 38,700 e-cars.

According to the Federal Office, the new registrations of all cars with an electric drive also reached a maximum value in the first half of the year. These include electric cars, plug-in hybrids and cars with fuel cell drive. Almost 388,000 of these cars were registered; Their share of the new registrations was 27.6 percent.

The number of new registrations, however, decreased overall. According to the KBA, 4.7 percent few cars were approved in Germany in the first half of the year than in the same period last year.

Experts recommend not to overestimate the numbers. It is currently only going “at first glance” well in the electrical segment, said Constantin Gall, car specialist at the advisory company EY, recently. On the one hand, it was primarily traders who bought electric cars, and private individuals still preferred “clearly” burners. On the other hand, the new registrations have only increased by 8 percent since 2023, when the environmental bonus had boosted the market. Germany is “still far away” from the electric room.
