German Manager Magazin: Moia: VW subsidiary withdraws from Hannover 004324

The VW own mobility service provider Moia hires its company in Hanover. The company wants to concentrate on his activities in Hamburg in the future, the company announced. “Against this background, Moia will not apply for a new license for the service in Hanover,” said a spokesman. The company will be discontinued from today.

In the course of the ongoing transformation process of Moia in Hanover, almost all employees have accepted a voluntary severance payment. “As a result, the offer can no longer be maintained due to the personal framework in Hanover from July 18,” says the spokesman.

Strategic realignment

The retreat from Hanover is part of the strategic realignment of the provider. Instead of operating collecting taxis yourself, Moia wants to become a technology and system provider for autonomous mobility solutions. The aim is to offer public and private mobility providers “to offer safe and turnkey overall solutions for autonomous mobility offers”.

The offer in Hamburg remains unaffected by the changes in Hanover. “The development and testing of the mobility offer will be concentrated with end customers in the future,” said the spokesman.

Moia started initial tests in Hanover in 2017 and then started operating in summer 2018. Hamburg followed in 2019. According to previous information, the company employs around 900 drivers in the Hanseatic city.
