Qualcomm Showcases Automotive Technology Advancements in India at Snapdragon Auto Day

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. hosted its inaugural Snapdragon for India: Auto Day event in New Delhi, highlighting its growing role in India’s automotive technology ecosystem. The event, attended by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, emphasized the government’s support for technological innovation in transportation.

The gathering brought together key stakeholders from India’s automotive industry, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), technology partners, and policymakers. Qualcomm used the platform to demonstrate its Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ portfolio, a suite of automotive solutions designed to support digital cockpits, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), connectivity, and cloud-based services tailored to Indian driving conditions.

Snapdragon Digital Chassis is currently deployed in over 350 million vehicles globally, according to Qualcomm. The company noted that its platforms are used by nearly all major Indian automakers and technology suppliers. Qualcomm has maintained a presence in India for more than a decade, with engineering centers in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Gurgaon, supporting development across telematics, infotainment, ADAS, two-wheelers, and connected vehicle services.

Qualcomm highlighted ongoing partnerships with several Indian OEMs. Maruti Suzuki discussed its use of Snapdragon technology for connected car features, first introduced in the second-generation Baleno in 2022. Mahindra showcased integration of Snapdragon Cockpit and Auto Connectivity platforms to enhance in-cabin experiences in its upcoming electric vehicles.

Spark Minda, an automotive technology supplier, also presented joint developments with Qualcomm on smart cockpit solutions aimed at improving digital interfaces in vehicles.

The company emphasized its growing footprint in India’s two-wheeler market, a dominant segment in the country’s transportation landscape. Collaborations with Hero MotoCorp, Ultraviolette, Royal Enfield, and Pricol were highlighted, focusing on integrating connectivity, telematics, and digital instrument clusters into motorcycles and scooters. These efforts aim to bring real-time navigation, safety alerts, and enhanced user interfaces to riders.

A notable segment of the event featured a collaboration with FYI.AI, the technology platform founded by artist and entrepreneur will.i.am. Together with Qualcomm, FYI.AI demonstrated two features—RAiDiO.FYI and Melodic Drive—integrated into Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e electric vehicle prototypes. The technology uses on-device AI, audio processing, and motion sensing to turn driving dynamics—such as acceleration and steering—into real-time musical compositions, offering a novel in-vehicle creative experience.

Qualcomm showcased what it described as the first public demonstration of its Snapdragon Ride™ platform in India, a scalable solution for ADAS and autonomous driving. The company noted partnerships with global and Indian technology firms, including Bosch, Tata Elxsi, Valeo, Visteon, ZF, Thundersoft, and HARMAN, to develop and deploy advanced safety systems.

KPIT Technologies, a Pune-based software provider, highlighted its collaboration with Qualcomm to deliver pre-integrated software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions based on Snapdragon Cockpit platforms, aiming to reduce development time and costs for automakers.

In remarks, Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President, Qualcomm India, emphasized the company’s focus on “Make from India, for India, and for the world,” citing local engineering capabilities as central to its global automotive strategy.

Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, noted that the company’s partnership with Qualcomm has enabled the rollout of affordable telematics and infotainment systems. Similarly, Ultraviolette’s Co-Founder and CTO, Niraj Rajmohan, stated that Snapdragon platforms have been critical in delivering high-performance connectivity for its electric motorcycles.
