BorgWarner Awarded Turbocharger Contracts for Compact and Light Commercial Vehicles

BorgWarner has secured two new turbocharger supply agreements with a major global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for next-generation compact and light commercial vehicles in Europe and North America.

Under the agreements, BorgWarner will provide a wastegate gasoline turbocharger for 1.0-liter engines used in combustion and hybrid vehicles in Europe. Production for this program is set to begin in August 2027. In North America, the company will supply a high-performance turbocharger for a 3.0-liter gasoline hybrid engine, with production scheduled to start in September 2028.

The turbochargers are designed to deliver improved efficiency and durability for small- and medium-displacement gasoline engines. The 1.0-liter application features a conventional wastegate system that manages boost pressure without requiring complex auxiliary systems, offering a cost-effective and reliable solution.

These components will be manufactured at BorgWarner’s facilities in Rzeszów, Poland, and Ramos, Mexico, supporting localized production and supply chain efficiency for the OEM.

Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, stated that the awards reflect the company’s ability to compete effectively in the turbocharging market. “We are providing proven technology with strong durability and cost competitiveness, along with long-term supply capabilities,” Weng said.

BorgWarner continues to support internal combustion and hybrid engine platforms amid evolving automotive industry trends. The company emphasizes its commitment to manufacturing scalability, regional production, and sustained availability of combustion-related technologies.

Established over 130 years ago, BorgWarner is a global supplier of automotive systems and components, with a focus on innovation and sustainability in mobility solutions.
