Ather Energy has announced that it has surpassed 400 Ather Grid fast charging points in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in the state’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure development. As of June 30, 2025, the company operates over 430 Ather Grid fast chargers across 38 cities in Tamil Nadu, with the network continuing to expand.
The charging infrastructure spans key urban centers and tourist destinations, including Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Chennai, Rameswaram, Coonoor, and Yelagiri. Strategic placement of these chargers supports major intercity routes such as Coimbatore–Bangalore, Madurai–Kanyakumari, Coimbatore–Palani, Trichy–Chennai, and Chennai–Pondicherry, facilitating long-distance travel for EV users.
In addition to its proprietary Ather Grid network, the company has deployed more than 50 fast charging points based on the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) standard. Developed by Ather Energy and made available for open industry adoption, LECCS enables interoperability across multiple light electric vehicle brands. Ather Grid chargers are also integrated with Google Maps, allowing users to easily locate and navigate to charging stations, regardless of the EV brand, provided the vehicle is equipped with a LECCS-compatible connector.
Ather Energy currently operates 44 experience centers and 42 service centers across 35 cities in Tamil Nadu, supporting both sales and after-sales services for its customers.
The expansion has been supported through partnerships with businesses such as Coffee Day Global Limited, Zeon Electric Private Limited, Ganga Sweets, and Aswins Sweets, facilitating broader deployment of charging points across high-footfall locations.
Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, noted that Tamil Nadu has been a key market since the company’s entry in 2019. “Establishing over 400 fast chargers in the state reflects our ongoing focus on addressing charging accessibility, a critical factor in EV adoption,” he said. “As we expand our retail presence, the charging network will continue to grow in parallel, aiming to make electric two-wheeler ownership more convenient.”
Ather Energy launched India’s first fast-charging network for two-wheelers in 2018 and has since built the country’s largest dedicated EV two-wheeler charging infrastructure. Nationally, the company now operates more than 3,300 Ather Grid fast charging points. The chargers support a charging speed of up to 15 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, aimed at minimizing downtime for daily commutes and long-distance travel.
With over 480 fast charging points in Tamil Nadu—including both Ather Grid and LECCS-enabled stations—the state emerges as a key hub in India’s evolving electric mobility ecosystem.
