Volkswagen Is in Brazil Due to slave-like working conditions in the 1970s and 1980s, a multi-million dollar pay was sentenced. On Friday (local time), a labor court ruled that the Brazilian subsidiary of the German car maker must pay 165 million Reais (the equivalent of around 26 million euros), as the public prosecutor announced.
According to court documents, around 300 workers were exposed to working conditions, which was degrading from VW, to be relieved of the Farm. The workers would not have received enough food and no medical help – not even those who had infected Malaria with the tropical disease.
The Brazilian public prosecutor’s office for labor law had already started investigations in this case in 2019 and at the end of 2024 officially filed a lawsuit against the automotive group.
Volkswagen announced that it would make an appeal against the decision. The carmaker said that he was the principles of human dignity and strictly adhered to all applicable labor laws. The verdict was preceded by failed comparative negotiations.
