LeafyBus, a New Delhi-based intercity electric bus operator, has secured USD 4.1 million in funding from Enetra India Private Limited, backed by Singapore’s Impact Capital Asia Management (ICAM), to expand its electric bus fleet from 10 to over 100 vehicles across North, East, and South Indian corridors within 18-24 months.
The company currently operates India’s only intercity electric bus service powered by the country’s first 360 kW fast-charging station, running three daily trips on the Delhi-Dehradun route covering 900 km within 24 hours.
LeafyBus plans to deploy buses on high-demand routes connecting Agra, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Patna, selected based on passenger demand and charging infrastructure readiness. The company will invest in technology solutions for automated trip planning, bus allocation optimization, and real-time performance monitoring.
Impact Capital Asia Management, established in August 2020, focuses on sustainable infrastructure investments with emphasis on environmental, social, and governance criteria. Through its partnership with Enetra India, ICAM channels capital toward ventures adhering to sustainable principles.
“India’s intercity transport system is on the brink of a major transformation. Moving toward electric mobility over long distances is about more than just cutting emissions…it’s about creating a safer, more reliable, and comfortable travel experience for millions,” said Rohan Dewan, Founder and CEO of LeafyBus. “Our work on the Delhi to Dehradun route has shown what’s possible when technology and infrastructure come together. This USD 4.1 million investment from Enetra India and ICAM provides us with the support needed to expand thoughtfully and innovate responsibly. We see this as a step toward building a sustainable transport network that can serve India’s growing demand for clean and efficient travel.”
Animesh Sharma, Co-Founder of LeafyBus, added, “Expanding electric bus services on intercity routes brings many challenges from planning routes and managing charging infrastructure to ensuring fleet reliability and earning passenger trust. Our approach combines practical experience with technology to address these issues carefully. With this funding, we can improve how we manage our fleet, communicate with passengers in real time, and predict maintenance needs more accurately. Our goal is to make electric intercity travel safe, dependable, and accessible to as many people as possible.”
Neeraj Gupta, Founder and Managing Director of Enetra India Private Limited, said, “We believe that electric mobility is essential to reducing the environmental impact of India’s transport sector. LeafyBus’s careful execution and focus on passenger experience demonstrate their commitment to this goal. Our investment supports their efforts to build a scalable and sustainable transport solution that can serve millions. Together, we are working to create cleaner, more reliable travel options for India’s future.”
“Our investment in Leafy is a conviction bet on the future of intercity mobility in India. The team has already proven that electric buses can compete with diesel fleets and still deliver profitability, scale, and the highest utilization in the sector. By combining disciplined execution with a strong focus on passenger experience, Leafy is setting new benchmarks in sustainable transport. We see them as a category leader in the making, and this investment is aimed at accelerating that leadership,” he added.
LeafyBus operates premium fully electric, air-conditioned buses with safety features including dedicated helplines, panic buttons, reserved seating for women, and monitoring systems such as ADAS, DMS, and alcohol detection. The company has partnered with JBM Electric Vehicles for supply of 200 buses and secured financing for its first fleet through AMU.
