Suzuki Japan to Channel More Exports Through India: Hisashi Takeuchi

India is taking a much bigger role in Maruti Suzuki’s exports, as the parent company is diverting some key models to be produced and shipped out of India for Suzuki Global.

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car maker, premiered its new mid-size SUV, Victoris – intends to ship the vehicle to over 100 countries, helping the parent company, Suzuki, expand globally.

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, said that Suzuki is shifting a larger share of export production from Japan to India, citing India’s ability to deliver competitively priced, durable, and robust vehicles to global markets.

“Export is always under consideration. Suzuki Japan is shifting more and more of its export market from Japan to India. From India, we can export at a very competitive price and a robust, good durability product,” Takeuchi said.Exports, which were once a supplementary part of MSIL’s business, are now expanding at a faster pace than domestic volumes. The company shipped over 3.33 lakh units in FY-25, and overseas shipments are likely to grow more than 2.5 times till the end of the decade to 7.5 lakh units by FY-31.

The company already serves over 100 countries and is looking to strengthen its role further in Suzuki’s global value chain. The growing importance of exports provides Maruti Suzuki a buffer against domestic market volatility and reinforces India’s role as a strategic base for Suzuki Motor’s international expansion.
