German Manager Magazin: Volkswagen, ZF Friedrichshafen, Continental – The newsletter “Manage: Mobility” 004426

Dear reader, dear reader,

The IAA Mobility in Munich in 2021 and 2023 had not approved the mood for the Oktoberfest. The atmosphere in the industry was too dreary, too uninspired the appearances of the local brands. The auto industry is still in a deep hole. This year, at the IAA, she at least struggled not to sow herself too much in self -pity. The mood in Munich was better again.

The supposedly recessed self -confidence of the German carmakers is not yet able to trust. The newly presented electric models are impressive. The narrative that you have now done your homework, but mostly the upscale finger brussels followed: politics may do that too and tilt the combustion engine. Many industry managers still do not seem to be as exaggerated as they used to be. Our topics of the week:

When Oliver Blume (57) became the Volkswagen boss, his largest construction site was clear: Volkswagen needed quicker software. Blume predecessor Herbert Diess (66) had become doomed by his Coder group Cariad; Again and again models had to be moved because of the software. Blume wanted to fix this through cooperation – for China and for the rest of the world. Blume chose Rivian for the latter mission. Thanks to the VW billion, the US start-up was alive and in return should breathe new life into Volkswagen with its software skills. But according to my colleague Michael Freitag, it is said again in Wolfsburg: Code Red. New billion costs and delays are threatened, even an emergency comeback from Cariad seems likely.

Number of the week: 49.2

Au, Au, auto industry: According to an EY analysis, the 19 largest automobile manufacturers in the world made a profit in the first half of the year. Sounds good? Not so much if you compare the value with the previous year; There were still 84.3 billion euros or 49.2 percent more. Renault, Nissan, Stellantis and Mazda were most recently born. Two -digit returns only made Suzuki (10.4 percent) and Kia (10.1 percent).

Deepdrive: Google a car briefly?

The used car market is firmly in the hands of vehicle exchanges. They bring buyers and dealers together – and collect properly. Germany’s market leader Mobile.de, for example, regularly sacks returns beyond 60 percent. Not surprisingly that something attacker calls on the plan. For example: Google. There you have been experimenting with so -called vehicles ads for a long time. Interested parties should best find their desired car directly via the search engine. In Spain and Italy, dealers have already tested

. The results sound promising: 27 percent more “leads” and significantly lower costs per request.

While Volkswagen praised himself at the IAA for his upcoming electric autogeneration, He Xiaopeng (47) was again at least two steps at the stand next door. The founder of the car manufacturer Xpeng, who is supposed to help VW as a partner in China from the crisis, are apparently too boring. He really wants to take off – and dreams of the flight taxi. On Tuesday, He Xiaopeng was first tough after his full-bodied announcements in Munich: At a flight show in the Chinese Changchun, two vertical starters from the Xpeng subsidiary Aeroth and crash

. A person was injured, but it is apparently not in mortal danger.

Come through the week accident -free!
