German Manager Magazin: Tesla may test robotaxis in Arizona004434

Tesla has received approval for tests with autonomous robotaxis in the US state of Arizona. This was announced by the Arizona traffic authority in an email to the Reuters news agency on Friday. Accordingly, the group plans to test robotaxis in the Phoenix metropolitan region with security drivers.

Approval requested in June

Tesla applied for a permit for testing a carpool with autonomous vehicles in June. CEO Elon Musk (54) had previously stated that Tesla wanted to start an autonomous driving service for about half of the US population by the end of the year.

When the tests will start in Arizona and how long it will take was initially unclear.

The company was last because of its door locks are criticized. The US transport security authority NHTSA initiated an investigation at Teslas Kompakt-SUV Model Y of the 2021 model year this week. For example, it is about situations in which parents get off at the destination after arriving – and then could not open the doors to get children from the back seat. Tesla now wants to take care that the door locks of the electric cars are easier to open in emergency situations.
