German Manager Magazin: VW production: Volkswagen strokes layers in several E-Autower004447

Forced break for the employees of the Volkswagen-Droduction in Zwickau and Dresden: The production of vehicles should rest there for a week from October 6, confirmed Europe’s largest carmaker at the request of the news agency dpa.

The reason for this is a weak demand. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” (“FAZ”) had previously reported.

According to the report, the report also threatens to negotiate with the works council. The decision could be made next week, writes the “FAZ”.

Production cuts in Osnabrück have already been decided: at least one closing day will be filed every week by the end of the year, confirmed VW. There is also a week break in October.

Weak demand for electric cars, stronger for certain combustion engines

On the grounds, a group spokesman in Wolfsburg said that Volkswagen adapted “the production program in his works to the current customer issue of the models built there.” This will lead to shift statements in some works in the coming weeks.

The demand is particularly weak for electric cars, which are built in Zwickau and Emden. Osnabrück suffers from weak sales of the convertibles built there.

In contrast, there are further shifts in the Wolfsburg main plant, the spokesman added. There will be special missions on almost all weekends by Christmas. The reason is the high demand for the golf, Tiguan and Tayron, built there.

Unlike in the pure e-car factories Emden and Zwickau, only combustion models are built in Wolfsburg that are currently in demand. There have been special layers here since May. “The demand for Tiguan, Tayron and Golf is currently very good,” brand chief Thomas Schäfer (55) said at the company meeting at the beginning of the month.

At VW you have been fighting problems for a long time: the profit breaks down, positions are to be dismantled. Most recently, new software problems flared up that put a strain on the group, as the Manager Magazin reported.
