Maruti Baleno Turns 10 Years Old, Sells Over 2 Million Units

The Maruti Baleno, launched on October 26, 2015, has turned a decade old. Over the past 10 years, the stylish premium hatchback sold exclusively from the carmaker’s Nexa showrooms, has clocked sales of over 2 million units. This comprises 16,98,014 units in the domestic market till end-September 2025 and 396,999 units as exports till August 2025.

As the decadal wholesales data table below reveals, the Baleno’s best fiscal sales came in FY2019 – 212,330 units (up 11%), when it accounted for 16% of Maruti Suzuki’s passenger car and sedan sales of 12,87,023 units. At the time, the Baleno was sold with petrol and diesel powertrains. However, with the company’s exit from the diesel engine market in March 2020, the Baleno felt the heat of slowing sales and as a result, demand fell for three fiscals in a row and hit a low of 148,187 units in FY2022.

FY2019 (212,230 units), when it was offered with petrol and diesel engines, was the Baleno’s best fiscal. Sales rose again in FY2023 (202,901 units) when the second-gen model was launched.

Following the launch of the second-generation model in February 2022, Baleno sales recovered in FY2023 (202,901 units, up 37% YoY) and crossed the 200,000 milestone for the second time in a decade. However, since then, sales have fallen year on year – by 4% to 195,607 units in FY2024, and then by 14% to 167,161 units in FY2025. In the current fiscal’s first half, 71,989 units have been sold, down 7% on year-ago sales of 77,872 units.

The Baleno, which is now sold with petrol and CNG engines, remains a regular in the Top 10 passenger car sales chart. In FY2024, it was ranked No. 2 and in FY2025, it was the No 3 with sibling Wagon R topping the No. 1 car ranking.
