Lumax Auto Technologies Limited (LATL), a Tier-1 supplier to Indian automotive manufacturers, opened its new Technology Center in Bengaluru on October 30, 2025. The facility, named the Smart Hub for Innovation and Future Trends (SHIFT), will focus on developing electronics engineering and digital capabilities for software-defined vehicles.
The center will conduct research and product development in in-cabin experiences, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), connectivity, and embedded electronics. The facility includes electronics laboratories for hardware-in-the-loop testing, rapid prototyping, and product validation.
Representatives from Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and TVS Motor Company attended the inauguration event.
“This centre marks a major step toward our Tier 0.5 vision, enhancing our strengths in electronics, mechatronics, and digital systems,” said Anmol Jain, Managing Director of Lumax Auto Technologies Limited. The company aims to position itself higher in the automotive supply chain as vehicles become increasingly software-centric.
The establishment of the technology center comes as the automotive component industry undergoes changes driven by electrification, digitization, and autonomous technologies. Software-defined vehicles represent a shift from traditional mechanical systems to vehicles controlled primarily by software and digital systems.
Deepak Jain, Promoter Director of Lumax Auto Technologies Limited, stated that the facility reflects the company’s commitment to customer-centric innovation and technological leadership. The center is intended to accelerate innovation and strengthen collaboration within the industry.
According to Satish Sunderesan, Chief Technology Officer of Lumax Auto Technologies Limited, the facility will bring together talent and technology to develop software-defined and digitally driven vehicles. The center aims to progress from smart systems to autonomous intelligence capabilities.
Bengaluru was selected as the location for the technology center due to its established technology ecosystem and availability of engineering talent. The city has become a hub for automotive research and development activities in India, with several global and domestic companies establishing similar facilities there.
The automotive industry’s transition toward software-defined vehicles involves integrating intelligent systems that can be updated and improved through software rather than requiring hardware changes. This shift allows manufacturers to add features and improve vehicle performance throughout the product lifecycle.
Lumax Auto Technologies Limited operates through subsidiaries that manufacture automotive components including plastics, lighting systems, chassis components, gear shifters, emission systems, seat frames, oxygen sensors, antennas, electric devices, wiring harnesses, interior components, and compressed natural gas delivery systems. The company maintains 30 manufacturing plants across India.
The Lumax-DK Jain Group, the parent organization, reported brand revenue of INR 10,045 crores for 2024-25. The group has 12 partnerships with international automotive companies and operates 16 entities across 42 locations in India. The company supplies components to manufacturers including Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Suzuki, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters, Tata Motors, Daimler India, and Volkswagen.
The opening of the SHIFT Technology Center represents part of a broader trend in the Indian automotive industry, where component suppliers are investing in research and development capabilities to meet changing requirements from vehicle manufacturers. As vehicles incorporate more electronic systems and software features, suppliers must develop new competencies beyond traditional mechanical components.
The facility is expected to support Lumax’s efforts to develop products for electric vehicles and connected car technologies, areas that are experiencing growth in the Indian automotive market. The center will also work on solutions for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, serving the diverse needs of the company’s customer base.
