The auto supplier ZF in Friedrichshafen is preparing short-time work at individual locations due to delivery bottlenecks at chip manufacturer Nexperia. “The company has this ready as a tool and has registered it at individual locations as a precautionary measure,” a company spokesman told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” on Friday. The number of affected employees is “still manageable”.
According to information from the automotive industry, the Dutch chip manufacturer Nexperia announced three weeks ago that the company can no longer fully guarantee the supply of its chips to the automotive supply chain. The background is a decision by the Dutch government: it placed Nexperia, which belongs to the Chinese group Wingtech, under its control at the end of September. Beijing then imposed an export ban on Nexperia products at the beginning of October. In China Nexperia preliminary products are further processed.
The company is an important global supplier of semiconductors, which are often used, for example, in electronic control units in vehicle electronic systems.
