Volkswagen India has announced that its premium sedan, the Virtus, recorded its highest ever monthly sales performance in October 2025, with 2,453 units sold during the month.
The Virtus has maintained a dominant position in the premium sedan segment, capturing over 40% market share for the past two months. According to Volkswagen, the model has led the segment for nearly 20 consecutive months, establishing itself as the category leader.
The announcement coincides with another significant milestone for Volkswagen’s India 2.0 product line. The Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan have together achieved cumulative sales exceeding 160,000 units in the domestic market since their respective launches. The Virtus completed 40 months in the Indian market as of October 2025.
Nitin Kohli, Brand Director of Volkswagen India, attributed the success to customer preference for design, driving dynamics, performance, and safety features. He noted that the Virtus has achieved “cult car status” within the company’s lineup, comparable to other iconic Volkswagen models.
The Virtus is noted for its performance and safety features, including six airbags, over 40 safety features, 5-star GNCAP safety ratings, 1.0 l TSI and 1.5 l TSI Evo engine options. The Virtus GT Plus holds a national record for a 24-Hour Endurance Drive, covering a maximum distance of 4,654.48 km in 24 hours.
The India 2.0 strategy focuses on introducing globally benchmarked products adapted for Indian customers. Volkswagen reports that both models continue to show sustained sales volumes, with the Virtus demonstrating particular strength in premium trim levels.
Volkswagen currently offers four models in India: the Taigun, Virtus, Tiguan R-Line, and Golf GTI. The company operates through its division SAVWIPL, with manufacturing facilities located in Chakan, Pune, Maharashtra.
