Automotive technology supplier Marelli has opened a new technical research and development site in Bangalore, India, marking a significant expansion of the company’s engineering operations in the country.
The facility, which officially opened on November 5, 2025, is located in Embassy Manyata Tech Park and will accommodate 350 employees. The site joins Marelli’s existing R&D center in the same tech park, which opened in 2022, and an engineering center in Gurugram near Delhi. With this addition, Marelli’s total R&D workforce in India now reaches 1,200 people.
The new center features specialized infrastructure including optics laboratories, hardware and automotive validation labs, as well as training facilities and collaborative workspaces designed to support innovation and employee development.
The facility will focus on developing solutions across several key automotive technology areas, including electronics, lighting systems, and both internal combustion and electric propulsion technologies. Specific projects will include end-to-end development of infotainment systems, instrument clusters, displays, body control modules, engine management systems, and lighting components for Indian customers.
The center will also collaborate with Marelli’s global engineering teams and customers on emerging technologies such as Software-Defined Vehicles, zonal architecture, Automated Manual Transmissions, Engine and Battery Management Systems, and advanced lighting innovations.
Saju Mookken, Marelli India Country Manager, said the opening demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation and customer excellence. He noted that the expansion reflects Marelli’s strategic vision for R&D activities in India and will enhance the company’s capacity to develop solutions for both local and global markets.
The company is also investing in expanded in-house testing infrastructure to enable more internal validation of products and components.
Marelli now operates 15 production sites and three R&D centers across six cities in India. The company, which employs approximately 40,000 people worldwide, maintains over 150 sites globally and supplies mobility technology to the automotive sector.
The expansion comes as India continues to experience dynamic market growth and strengthens its position as a global technology hub in the automotive industry.
