55 new models between 2018 and 2022 Electric cars – Volkswagen is announcement world champion
Is the electromobility the future of auto industry? At least one big automaker seems to have decided on it: like the graphics of Statista shows, Volkswagen has by far the most new electric car models announced. This is the result of an evaluation by the consulting firm Alix Partners.
The Wolfsburg-based group wants to become the leading provider of electric mobility and to burn down a veritable model fireworks: 55 electrified models, ie plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles should come (as of today) between 2018 and 2022 on the market. The lion’s share (23) is announced for the coming year 2019. Especially the car world is waiting Audis electric SUV E-Tron Quattro, which is due to go on sale in late 2018, and on Porsche’s mission E,
The other volume builders are rather cautious. Toyota is more likely to full hybrids, but from 2023 wants to offer more powerful batteries and then offer more pure battery models. Also General Motors and Ford are in the coming years rather ambitious on the electric market on the way.
Germany’s premium carmaker, however, start their electric offensives with a slightly broader breast: Audi will account for 10 of the 23 announced Volkswagen E-cars in 2019 alone. According to Alix Partners census, BMW intends to introduce 11 new E models between 2018 and 2022 – in addition to the six streamers introduced in 2017. Daimler’s new electric brand EQ will start in 2019 and should lift a good part of the Stuttgart-based e-car offensive. They have promised a total of five new models with plug-in hybrid or pure e-drive for 2018 to 2022.
