Dusseldorf. According to its own count, Mercedes-Benz has replaced more than 2,700 parts: The facelift of the flagship model S-Class, which the Swabians presented on Thursday, is considered the most complex model revision in the company’s 140-year history.

This is mainly explained by the update of the on-board technology. This was no longer considered up-to-date in the previous model, which has been on the market since 2020. Mercedes is now equipping the luxury sedan with the heavily revised MB.OS software architecture. Only this enables smooth operation of the navigation system or automated driving through the city.

“Few vehicles have had such a lasting impact on the automotive industry as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. To this day, it sets standards for safety, comfort and engineering and stands for progress and innovation like no other model,” said Mercedes boss Ola Källenius on Thursday at the world premiere in the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart.

For the car manager, however, the revision of the series known internally as the W223 will be a test. Last year, Mercedes delivered a total of just 1.8 million cars to dealers – the lowest figure since 2015.
