Production in Rastatt: The A-Class could be relocated to Hungary in the future. Photo: dpa
Oberpfaffenhofen. Mercedes is planning a successor to the A-Class. As “Automobilwoche” reports, citing head of development Jörg Burzer, the next generation of the compact model will be built based on the MMA platform from 2028. Together with the larger CLA and the SUV offshoots GLA and GLB, the five-door model forms the entry into the brand’s model range. It is still unclear whether the new model will remain with the current model name.
The A-Class had already been written off at Mercedes. Originally, the current, conventionally motorized generation should have been phased out without a successor by 2026 at the latest. Instead, Mercedes now wants to relocate production of the model from Rastatt to Hungary and continue building the model until at least 2028. Now it looks as if there could also be a future for the golf competitor.
