Mercedes-Benz and the DFBThis is a traditional connection: For 45 years, the German carmaker sponsored the footballers of the German national team – and may in return with the players promote his vehicles. That could soon change: According to information from the “FAZ” delivers the VolkswagenGroup bidding competition with Mercedes – and wants the DFB per year 25 to 30 million euros transfer.
According to “FAZ” there is also a preliminary decision within the association – in favor of Volkswagen 
, The DFB denies that. “Our bodies have not made a decision, so there is currently nothing to say,” said DFB spokesman Ralf Koettker. According to “FAZ” on Friday, 14th July, the DFB presidium decide.
VW did not want to comment on the report on request. On DaimlerSpokesman told the FAZ: “We would love to continue working with the national team, and the partnership with the DFB has been and could be successful in the future.”
In mid-March, the DFB had re-tendered the sponsorship rights in the automobile category for the period from 1 January 2019 to 31 July 2024. The current contract with Mercedes ends in the 2018 World Cup year.
